The Trabecular Metal™ Dental Implant from Zimmer (now ZimVie) combines a proven tapered titanium implant with a mid-section made of Trabecular Metal™ material.
This material is made of tantalum and has a sponge-like structure with up to 80% porosity, very similar to natural cancellous bone. Regular implants only let bone grow onto their surface. Trabecular Metal is designed so that bone can also grow into the implant, a process called osseoincorporation. The same material has been used for about two decades in orthopaedic implants such as joint replacements.
